iPhone Game: Flight Control
Flight control has got to be the most addicting game I have yet to play on the iPhone. At first, the concept sounds so simple you may not hold an interest in it at all, but once you start landing those planes and helicopters, it’s all history from that point on. There is one airport that you land your planes and helicopters in (for now at least). The more aircraft you land the more they come in groups and badges. You use a finger to draw paths that the aircraft travel on to successfully land without collision. It only takes one to screw up, and then its game over.
The graphics in Flight Control are as simple as the games concept. A green field with an airport slapped just a little off-center to the right of the screen. The planes enter and land themselves (with your help of-coarse) smoothly. When you reach the point of airport mayhem you might notice a few stutters here and there, but they’re always temporary.
When you start the game you have a soundtrack that plays for about a half a minute, and fades away. Every-time you land a plane, a sound is played to inform you of the success. When the aircraft get close to each-other a proximity warning sound alerts you of a possible danger. This probably is the single most important sound-effect, and there aren’t even that many.
A feature that was recently implemented, is the online scoreboard. Every-time you play you can submit your score to see how you rank against people in your area. Yes, it detects your location to determine your rank in your area. When you create an account online you can log-in on your computer, and check out detailed statistics of how you and others are doing in Flight Controls. The more planes you land the higher rank you will receive, such ranks include first offices, and captain.
When you let an aircraft slip-by and crash, you will often feel frustrated at the fact that you could’ve prevented it so easily. This is what makes you hit play over and over again.
