iPhone Game: Fieldrunners
Fieldrunners is certainly the most popular tower defense game available, on the iPhone and the iPod Touch platform. The concept is simple, waves of various types of enemies come at you as you try to tactfully align your missile and machine gun turrets and so forth, to prevent them from entering your base.
Currently there are three levels from which you can choose from and three different modes of play, which are classic, extended, and endless. Classic mode allows you to use four different towers to defend your territory, while the extended mode allows you to use six different towers. On the other hand, endless mode allows you to take on unlimited amount of enemies using the full arsenal.
The graphics in Fieldrunners are flawless. Everything from the animations of enemies, your defense towers and the environments looks sleek and pleasant. The sound effects perfectly go along with the graphics. They compliment the graphics well, because you are able to identify enemies based on the sounds they produce, and are far from generic effects.
It would be great if Subatomic Studios created more levels with different environments to play in. After having played Fieldrunners for several months, it can get repetitive. Maybe someday they will create a integrated map-editor, so you can fight the wars in your personal style. At just $2.99 this will provide hours of fun for a near unlimited amount of time.
